The popular video of a man saving his dog from a kangaroo has more than 23 million views. Almost like a classic cartoon, a large kangaroo and an even larger Australian man put their dukes up. There is more to the story than just a crazy right hook. What the video doesn’t show is that the trip was actually a boar-hunting excursion organized for a young man with a terminal cancer diagnosis. Sadly, the young man died shortly after the trip. The excursion took place on private property in New South Wales, when the groups dog was placed into a head lock.

That’s when Grieg Tonkins took action, and ran to rescue his beloved pal. Tonkins is not a small man coming in at a whopping 6 foot 7. As Tonkins runs to rescue the pup, the buck tried to kick the dog in the cut with its sharp foot claws. Luckily the roo missed and the dog broke free. The buck then turns to Tonkins and squares up for a fight. Then like vintage Mike Tyson, Tonkins lands a solid right hook to the nose of the kangaroo.

After the video went viral Tonkins has been targeted by animal rights activists, but the zoo he works for stands behind him. The Taronga Western Plains Zoo released a statement on their Facebook stating, "Mr. Tonkins is an experienced Zoo keeper and during his six years at Taronga Western Plains Zoo has always followed Taronga's best practice approach to animal care and welfare. We confirm that there is no suggestion of Mr. Tonkins' employment at Taronga Western Plains Zoo ending as a result of this event."

Like most cases of viral videos keyboard warriors have gone after Tonkins and his family. Tonkins recently called the police to his property after receiving threats. After reviewing the video it is clear that, the kangaroo was acting with an aggressive posture to the dog and Tonkins. What do you think, animal abuse or self-defense?
